Use of Highly Trained and Skilled Union Mechanics Reduces Risk of Elevator and Escalator Accidents, New York Personal Injury Attorney Says

Poorly maintained elevators and escalators often lead New York City elevator and escalator riders to serious injury or even death, says Steven J. Schwartzapfel during the recent National Elevator Escalator Safety Awareness Week.

"All too often, unscrupulous building owners put profit over public safety when maintaining, repairing or replacing these elevators and escalators," says Schwartzapfel, whose personal injury law firm, Schwartzapfel Partners, P.C., represents consumers injured or killed in elevator or escalator accidents throughout New York City.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 11,000 people are hurt each year when elevators malfunction and another 10,000 people go to the emergency room as the result of defective escalators. NY1 News reports that there are more than 60,000 elevators and 2,200 escalators in New York City alone.

These elevator accidents and escalator accidents occur even though this equipment is subject to strict safety laws and regulations. "By properly maintaining, repairing and/or replacing this equipment and using highly trained and skilled union mechanics, property owners and landlords greatly reduce the risk of these accidents," Schwartzapfel says. Monika Gupta may seem like an unlikely candidate to launch her own fashion line; after all, she grew up in Canada's capital city of Ottawa, which is not often associated women's jackets with fashion.

However, she was blessed with a mother who had attended Concordia for fashion. Monika's mother taught her sewing and garment construction, and when Monika began designing her own clothes and wearing them to special events, friends and strangers alike raved about her designs.

"I can't quite recall the exact moment I decided I wanted to pursue a business in fashion but I do remember doing endless research to understand the business and key players involved in the industry. Inspired by the
successes of labels such as Victoria Secret, I used to envision starting with a catalogue and expanding into other avenues."

Eventually, she and her sisters went on to launch Kavi Kavi, a fashion label with an edgy, tailored look which garnered major media coverage across the globe. For a while, Monika poured her time and talents into this new venture, but she never abandoned her dream of launching her own women's wear line.

Elizabeth Noblitt Brings Fashion Designers and Women Golfers Together at AGORA During Women’s History Month
